Lenovo Z2 Plus

     Lenovo launched this smartphone on last October,  it was one of the most affordable smartphone to be powered by the snapdragon 820. It provides with a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage capacity costs of nearly ₹.19,999,  making the smartphone best budget phone at its price. After 9 months on,  the Z2 Plus continues to be an attractive offer for the customers in the market. By comparison,  the Redmi Note 4 with the snapdragon 625 costs ₹.12,999. Many smartphones in this budget provides a metal construction and as there only so many ways to differentiate when you are using a metal unibody,  they start to look a like. That isn't the case with Z2 Plus. With a corning design and a fiberglass frame,  this smartphone certainly manages to standout. This Z2 Plus features a roll cage that sees key components mounted on a roll cage,  with the idea inspired by the company's ThinkPad range. Doing so gives the phone resistance to tumbles, and that's in line with what seen over last 9 months. Z2 Plus has seen its share of tumbles, and it came away without any damage.


     This smartphone features of a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 820,  4GB of RAM, 64GB storage,  13 megapixel ISOCELL camera with 4K video recording,  8MP front shooter,  Wi-Fi ac, USB-C, and a 3500mAh battery. The fact it is available for the equivalent of $175 makes it one of the best deals in this segment. The Z2 Plus works on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, and the phone has picked up the Nougat update earlier this year. That's about it as fas far as platform updates go, as Lenovo has mentioned that it won't roll out the Android O update to the phone. This smartphone is based on ZUI (2.5.104),  and like any ROM designed for the Chinese market, there are a lot of customizations.


    Lenovo provided a 13MP Samsung ISOCELL imagin sensor in the Z2 Plus,  and the company's camera app has a lot of features. The interface itself looks out of place when seen against the rest of the UI, but you get easy options to switch between photo and video modes, togging the front and rear cameras, accessing the gallery,  enabling HDR, flash and more.

BlackBerry Keyone

    After many days BlackBerry introduced the brand's big come back phone,  for the convince of BlackBerry die-hards and other lovers of physical keyboards,  This smartphone finally landed in market. The price of BlackBerry Keyone is approximately $539.54. Keyone is an ambitious endeavour to recover the brand reputation. Once one of the world's top smartphone manufacturers,  BlackBerry has dwindled in the past decade. Its last some smartphones were failed to make a positive impression. Now with BlackBerry hardware in the hands of TCL, the manufacturer behind Alcatel phones, BlackBerry has good chance to wow buyers with something unique: a premium Android phone with a QWERTY -- rather than virtual -- keyboard,  and BlackBerry branded security software also installed. Keyboard will be the deciding factor for its competition against Samsung's Galaxy S8, LG's G6 and Google's Pixel.

Advantages: -

* Its heavy and sits uncomfortable on pinky fingerprint when you hold it.

* The keyboard feels cramped.

* There's a dedicated $ key,  but no dedicated period,  comma or @ button.

* The convenience key seems to trigger easily in bag ( If you set it to the camera and you can find at least a dozen errant photos).

* There aren't as many camera options as as competing devices but you can dig aroubd for the manual mode.

* It isn't water resistant.

       The screen size of this smartphone is smaller than iPhone 7 Plus and larger than Galaxy S8, it has a 4.5" screen topping off that signature keyboard. 180 grams,  the keyone is heavier than the Galaxy S8,  iPhone 7 and Google pixel, but its a bit lighter than iPhone 7 Plus.

Cameras:-

            The 12 MP camera has an automatic mode that's got plenty of filters,  auto HDR and panorama,  but not the many features you see in other competative devices. This might suit us fine,  especially if we mostly take photos automatic mode. There's a pro node you can turn on in the camera settings,  which gives you much finer control over white balance,  ISO and all the rest. 8 megapixel front facing camera takes straight forward selfies and you can apply the usual filters.


Software:-

     BlackBerry fans will be glad to see BlackBerry Hub, which is a universal message inbox and BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), as well as the Dtek application for peering into your phone's security protocols. Micromax Canvas Infinity

    Canvas infinity smartphone was introduced by Micromax with full screen display and minimal bezels at ₹.9,999 last week. Even though it has a tough competition with several smartphones in the price range, but the main advantage is it is the only phone with 18:9 infinity display for this price range. This smartphone has 5.77 inch HD+ 2.5 curved glass screen with 18:9 aspect ratio 83% screen to body ratio,  making it one of the compact large screen phones. It has a pixel resolution of 1440 by 720 pixel,  it has a pixel density of just 279 PPI so its not clear when compared to 1080 P screens. The glass material wasn't described by the manufacturer Micromax. The screen is bright, colors are vibrant and the sunlight legibility is good. In additional to adaptive brightness option present in most phones that uses ambient light sensor to adjust brightness level automatically to available light, it also has a new smart display option that optimizes the screen to improve the visibility by reducing glare when using the phone in bright outdoors. It has a 16 megapixel primary camera with LED flash. There are the usual set of proximity and ambient light sensors and the phone also provides with a notification LED that glows in red color. It has a magnetic sensor or magnetometer,  but seems to be gyroscope. There is a 13 megapixel camera on the back with single LED flash. The secondary microphone is placed above the camera and fingerprint sensor is placed below the flash. This smartphone contains 2900 mAh removable battery.


    The phone has a 13 megapixel camera with a LED flash,  f/2.0 aperture, 1.12 um pixel size,  81.5 degree FOV and 5P lens. On the front,  it has a 16 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture,  81.5 degree FOV, 5P lens and LED flash. The camera UI has toggles for flash,  HDR and option to choose effects and modes Including Super Pixel mode that lets you take images with a resolution of 51MP (8320x6240 pixels),  scene frame ( to shoot images inside a custom designed frame), Scene frame (to shoot images inside a custom designed frame), night mode and QR mode code mode to read QR codes. On the right side of the camera UI there are time Lapse, video,  photo,  beauty and panorama options. Images are decent, but some images seem dull when it is cloudy or when the lighting is not good. Macro shots looks good. HDR shots decent with improved contrast and saturation,  but again some images were dull. Low light shots had noise but images were not that bad. Images with flash were good. The 16 megapixel front facing camera is pretty good for selfies and video chats.


     Coming to the software,  it runs on Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with July 1st 2017 Android security patch. Micromax has promised to offer an update to Android 8.0 (Oreo) for the phone but it has not revealed any time frame. The custom UI is similar to skin found in most phones from Chinese OEMs. Smart action has double tap to wake up of lock, flip to mute,  answer call automatically by lifting the phone to ear, keep the screen locked on a call when the phone is in your pocket, flip to snooze alarm and short press power button to unlock the phone when the phone is standby mode. Out of 3GB RAM you get 2.8 GB of usable memory,  out of which 1.7GB of RAM is free when default apps are running in the background.  Out of 32GB of storage 29.12GB is usable, out of which 22.31 is free since system takes,  6.66GB of storage and the apps take up 159MB. You can expand the storage up to 128GB with microSD.


     The fingerprint sensor is present on the back, which is easily accesible even though the phone has a huge 5.7 inch screen. You can add up to five fingerprints and also set a particular fingerprint to open an application or call or contact easily. It has 4G LTE connectivity with support for several 4G bands, including VOLTE support for Reliance Jio. Both the SIMs support 4G, but you can enable 4G only in one SIM at a time,  while the other goes to 3G. Coming with performance,  the phone is provided by a Quad core snapdragon 425 mobile platform with four ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.41.4GHz per core and has 33GB of RAM. The performance is decent,  but there are occasional lags, even though the processor and RAM combo are good enough to run a phone with a HD+ screen. It gets a bit warm on 4G use, but it doesn't get heat when using 4G or wjen gaming. Coming to battery life,  2900 mAh removable battery offers decent battery life, but it is not impressive. It lasts for a day with average use, but it lasts for less than that with heavy use. At a price tag ₹. 9,999,  the Canvas Infinity is a good attempt from Micromax in creating a phone with minimal bezels at an affordable price tag. It has dedicated double SIM slots and an expansion slot, in addition to 32GB of internal storage and also has a removable battery. The Micromax Infinity goes on sale starting September 1st,  exclusively on Amazon.

LG Q6

   This LG Q6 smartphone was introduced in july 2017. This smartphone contains 5.5 inch touch screen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 2160 pixels at a PPI of 442 pixels per inch, this smartphone price in India starts from ₹. 13,800. The LG Q6 is provided with 1.4 GHz Octa core snapdragon 435 processor and it comes with 3GB of RAM. This smartphone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. Nokia 8

Nokia's range of 2017 phones has impressed,  so can it continue with the flagship Nokia 8 that offers top end specs for lower price. In a similar vein to oneplus, one of the big advantage with these new Nokia phones (made by HMD) is that they are a decent chunk cheaper than rival phones in the same category.

    For Nokia 8, you can get one outright for just £499 which was the price of a flagship phone phone a few years ago. You can also Amazon and Carphone warehousefor £399 making a bit of a bargain. Its got similar specs to handsets like the Sony Xperia XZ1 and HTC U11 which cost £599 and £649 respectively. Other phones like the Galaxy S8 are even more expensive.

     Its also reasonably light for its size 160 grams but its just a bit on the boring side of things - a sort of nothing to see here kind of deal. Four colors are available Tempered Blue, Polished Blue, Steel and Polished copper. The front of the phone is distinctly plain aside from a Nokia logo in the corner. Capacitive navigation buttons straddle a fingerprint scanner that's too small and not quite sunken enough. A lower price point than many rivals means you don't quite get all the flagship features you might hope for. The main thing here is that the Nokia 8  is not waterproof - its IP54 rating means it's dust and water resistant. In other words it can get a bit wet butyou can't submerge it. It's also a shame that we've found the phone scratches all too easily on the frintfront and back. We've got multiple fine marks over just a couple of weeks of usage.

   It has 5.3 inch screen has a rather unusual screen size. It's not the most ideal situation with so many similarly sized phones having a larger display,  typically around 5.5 inch. The screen-to-body ratio here doesn't even reach 70% so it's a similar problem to the Xperia XZ1. Like so many others,  the Nokia 8 has a Qualcomm snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You get 6GB of RAM in the cheaper oneplus 5 but for some the inclusion of a microSD card slot will be more - you can add up to 256GB more.

   Like core specs, connectivity options are becoming pretty standard too. To that end, the Nokia 8 has dual-band 11ac Wi-Fi,  GPS, NFC and Bluetooth 5.0.  Although it's only got cat 9 LTE, that won't make a noticeable different compared to devices with a theoretical faster peak download speed.

    As ever cameras are important and it's perhaps a slight surprise to find dual-lenses at the back at this price. Nokia has opted for two 13MP cameras with one offering a color sensor and other monochrome - rather than a telephoto or wide angle option.

    Inside the Nokia 8 is a 3090 mAh battery, which is about average for a flagship phone this size. The phone doesn't feature wireless charging but does support Quick Charge 3.0 and a fast charger is included in the box. You can get 49% with a 30 minute charge which is impressive.
